Israel Noko

Founder & CEO

Israel is the Founder & CEO of NPI Governance Consulting (a leading BEE Advisory & ISO9001 accredited company). He is passionate about the intentions behind Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (“BEE”), including the economic transformation of South Africa. Israel’s experience has focussed on developing and executing strategies which would enable companies to better position themselves in the market and develop partnerships with companies and organizations that want to implement “business-sense” transformational strategies. With a proven track record of transformation in a variety of industries, in April 2018, NPI Governance Consulting was nominated at the Top Empowerment Awards as the “Fastest Growth SME of the Year”.

Israel has been involved in various mergers and acquisitions other general corporate / commercial transactions. He has also advised on BEE joint-venture structure, company formations and re-organisations. Israel has extensive experience in business entity formation and governance matters, M&A, and BEE financing transactions in a wide variety of sectors.
Furthermore, Israel also served on the Boards of a variety of different organisations/ companies and provides management with strategic input on compliance, risk management and corporate governance. In March 2018, national Minister of Higher Education & Training, Naledi Pandor appointed Israel to the Board of the BankSETA, the national training authority for the Banking and micro-lending industry and supports people development through partnerships, skills development, alleviating unemployment, creating a brighter future and enabling change.
With over 10 years of relationship management experience within the Public sector in South Africa and aboard, Israel has worked at the United Nations Environmental Program, the Canadian High Commission Trade Office (as Trade Commissioner) in South Africa, the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa (as B-BBEE Advisor) bring a wealth of knowledge around government operations and programmes.

Israel studied Law and Social Sciences Diploma at the University of Warwick and a LL. B in Business Law at Coventry University, UK, and subsequently completed three Post-Graduate certificates with the Mandela School of Law (University of the Witwatersrand). Israel is a commentator in the press and business sector regarding transformation and sustainable development-related topics and has been invited to speak at several conferences on topics relating to transformation and sustainable development.

Portia Motloung

Chief Operations Officer

As Chief Operations Officer at NPI Governance Consulting, Portia has a keen interest in the strategic application of Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (“B-BBEE”), especially being a part of an authentic economic transformation of South Africa. Portia’s experience has focused on developing and executing strategies which would enable businesses to better position themselves in the market and develop partnerships with companies and organisations that want to implement “business-sense” management control, skills development and BEE strategies.

Portia has been involved in various organisations specialising in blending unique B-BBEE strategies that impact and enhance HR strategies. She has been instrumental in creating and implementing legacy programs that speak to sustainability and growth of organisations. In addition to handling formulation and implementation of BEE strategies, she has been instrumental in advising EXCO members and boards of directors with respect to B-BBEE impacts to business growth and market competitiveness. Having worked with a number of organisations (Multinationals, Listed and Privately Owned) combined headcount of 7000 people, advised and implemented strategic HR programs and practices that contributed to BEE compliance and built great relations with various stakeholders within the HR and Transformation space.

Portia brings a wealth of experience in talent acquisition, talent development, performance management, strategic business partner offering, facilitation, diversity program, compliance and risk management to drive and advise on HR principles and Transformation pillars.

Thabo Somo

Transformation Manager

As Transformation Manager at NPI Governance Consulting Thabo Somo brings a vast wealth of knowledge and aptitude to our team. Having been in the industry for over a decade, Thabo has extensive BEE experience with an in-depth knowledge of all the B-BBEE Sector Codes.

He has worked with numerous companies from medium sized large entities and multinationals of all industries as a BEE Analyst, BEE Advisor and Transformation Manager. With skills ranging from, planning, strategizing, project management and implementation, Thabo manages the preparation, and audit processes for BEE Verification, he handles the implementation and monitoring od BEE programs and initiatives.

In addition to the above, Thabo supports clients with forecasting and planning their requirement in line with agreed Transformation Targets by way of reporting and monitoring controls, including personal interaction. He identifies new opportunities for clients’ organisational Transformation strategies to add value and he recommends new approaches, solutions, policies and procedures for continual improvements in the efficiency of Transformation administrative and reporting processes.

Kelebogile Ntsimane

Transformation Manager

Kelebogile is the Transformation Manager for NPI. She is passionate about the intentions behind Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (“BEE”), including the economic transformation of South Africa. Kelebogile experience has focussed on BEE ratings, developing and executing strategies which would enable companies to better position themselves in the market, and develop partnerships with companies and organizations that want to implement sector specific enterprise and supplier development, socio-economic development and BEE strategies.

Kelebogile was involved in various SANAS and IRBA Verifications and was a SANAS accredited verification Analyst. She understands both IRBA and SANAS process and methodology. During her BEE consulting experience, she worked with multinational clients and advised on the implementation of Equity Equivalent Investment Programmes to Multinationals companies.

Kelebogile has extensive experience in Transformation and HR including Skills development Facilitation to business entity across all Sectors.

Thulisiwe Maguma

BEE Analyst

Thulisiwe is passionate about transformation and growth through upskilling. She studied Human Resources Management from the University of Johannesburg, majoring in Business Management and Human Resources and graduated with a National Diploma in 2014.

Her passion for upskilling and transformation has seen Thulisiwe get involved in B-BBEE ratings, to ensure clients are knowledgeable in upskilling their staff and expanding their capabilities. As a part of the transformation team, she is responsible for the analysis of our clients’ current B-BBEE statuses.

Thulisiwe is a self-motivated individual with the determination to succeed and the ability to prioritize substantial workload. Coming from a customer service environment, she has a strong customer service orientation and she understands the importance of delivering results and meeting customer expectations. She forms part of NPI’s Transformation team working closely with Tania Heyneke in Analysis of current B-BBEE status of clients.

Zaheera Khota

Strategic Advisor

Zaheera manages strategic advisory for multi-nationals on Enterprise and Supplier development, providing solutions best suited to their business ecosystem and value chain. She graduated with a BSc Urban Planning (Hons.) from Wits University.

The scope of her advisory includes but is not limited to: value chain analysis and an assessment of the best available options for Enterprise Development Programmes in lieu of their current B-BBEE scorecards targets; a long-term view in consideration of more holistic ROI metrics relevant to the client’s business development objectives.

This also includes feasibility reports on Equity Equivalents Programmes, B-BBEE value propositions for small businesses, facilitating assessments of Enterprise Development Incubators, and recommendations in the Independent Power Producer Programme. To date, clients include multinationals in the pharmaceutical and beverage industries as well as Aviation.

Her passion for upskilling and transformation has seen Thulisiwe get involved in B-BBEE ratings, to ensure clients are knowledgeable in upskilling their staff and expanding their capabilities. As a part of the transformation team, she is responsible for the analysis of our clients’ current B-BBEE statuses.

Lindi Kumalo

HR Business Partner

A qualified internal auditor, Lindi is the HR Business Partner and ISO accreditation champion at NPI Governance Consulting. Her eagerness to embrace additional skills and knowledge makes her a valuable member of the team.

Lindi acts as a Skills Development Facilitator, supporting supervisors and staff to develop their skills and capabilities regarding Employment Equity and overall Skills Development. Her role is also to ensure that quality management processes are established, implemented and maintained within client companies.

As ISO champion, she develops in-house standards for the NPI Governance Consulting team, ensuring that the company adheres to comprehensive quality procedures. As a result of her efforts, NPI Governance Consulting has maintained its status as the only ISO 9001:2015 accredited B-BBEE Advisory for the last 5 years.

Yasmeen Mbawana

HR Officer

Yasmeen comes from a Human Resources background spanning over 6 years, working for the government sector and various Non-Profit Organisations.

As HR Officer, Yasmeen has the eye and thrives off identifying the best talent to fill up challenging positions as well as identifying further career developmental needs of certain individuals in the workplace. She sees to it that support mechanisms are implemented and monitored, to the benefit of the individuals career growth.

Her background as HR Development and Change Management Practitioner, awarded her the ability to advise, recommend and implement intervention plans with regards to development of capacity for change regeneration. Yasmeen has monitored and evaluated the impact of intervention plans and participated highly as a change agent in providing the support mechanisms to implement major changes in the operation of organizations, through training on intervention tools.

As a team player in change management strategies, plans and procedures Yasmeen has also served as a liaison officer between stakeholders, providing constant communication on the implementation of intervention plans as per standards, policies and procedures.

Sange Madolo

Finance Officer

Sange is a Business Accountant with Financial accounting experience. She graduated with a BCom Accounting degree from the University of the Free State and is currently studying towards a Chartered Institute for Management Accountants (CIMA) professional qualification.

Sange ensures the compliance of internal financial statements with regards to industry standards. She brings with her experience from both the public and private sectors. She has experience in Supply Chain Management following an internship at The Eastern Cape Department of Rural Development and Agrarian reform where she worked in Contract Management and Demand Management.

Sange is well versed in financial reporting that is compliant with IFRS for SME’s, coverage which she landed during her time at Charteris & Barnes/A2A Kopano Incorporated.

Bonga Sibisi

Finance Officer

Bonga’s passion for Corporate Finance and Accounting has served as a conduit to the very position he currently holds. Amongst numerous accolades, one worth mentioning is when he was in the Top 3 for the Nedbank Corporate Finance Challenge in 2015. He graduated at the University of Johannesburg with a Bachelor of Accounting Sciences.

His career began at Joburg Market where he was placed in the Budgeting & Reporting Division. The experience equipped Bonga with financial forecasting and reporting skills. Furthermore, key to his progress is the exposure he has had in the private equity space prior to joining NPI. Bonga’s previous experience in the private equity arena includes, inter alia, fund accounting, financial reporting and post-investment duties.

Nkosilathi Mbiba

Finance Administrator

A long running member of the NPI team, Nkosilathi is currently studying towards a Bcom Accounting degree with Damelin College. He has assumed numerous roles including vendor registration and project administration since joining the company in 2015.

Nkosilathi is responsible for ensuring all billing regarding departmental invoices, in January 2017 he was assigned to do bookkeeping for Noko Pioneer Investments in which time he underwent on the usage of various accounting systems. As from March 2018, Nkosilathi has been administering this product under Noko Pioneer Investments. In November 2017 he was assigned to a manage supply chain management for NPI Governance Consulting. As from Mach 2018, Nkosilathi has been administering this product under our holding company, Noko Pioneer Investments.

Mahali Molapo

Communication and Marketing Consultant

Mahali is a qualified brand strategist. She graduated with a B.A. Corporate Communications degree from the University of the Free State and completed her B.A. Honours in Strategic Brand Communication from Vega School.

Mahali is an experienced communications and branding consultant with experience in a number of industries including mining, renewable energy and technology among others. She began her career with a communications consultancy and investor relations firm where she was responsible for the marketing and branding division handling, brand audits, re-positioning and brand architecture strategies for numerous clients.

Mahali informs and implements communication strategies linked to internal operations to increase NPI’s engagement with our audience and to position the company as a thought leader in B-BBEE.

Mahali brings her expertise to communicate the positivity around B-BBEE and Transformation, focusing on messages around how it can be used as an invaluable tool to improve the South African economy and create jobs for many.

Happy Ntshingila

Chairperson

Happy Ntshingila is Chairman of Washirika Holdings, an investment company which has, as its core focus, interests in the ITC, manufacturing, mass communication, design-build and refurbishment of office space (including shop fitting) sectors.

Happy served as Deputy Chairman of BrandSA for six years, an appointment made by the country’s president. He also serves as a Board Member of Gauteng Tourism Authority. In addition, he is a specialist marketing consultant for the Multichoice Group.

Happy’s entrepreneurial spirit saw him being one of the founders of South Africa’s first black-owned advertising agency, HerdBuoys, which had, among its many achievements, the distinction of having positioned and launched the new colours of South African Airways post 1994.

Derek Hall

Board Member

Happy Ntshingila is Chairman of Washirika Holdings, an investment company which has, as its core focus, interests in the ITC, manufacturing, mass communication, design-build and refurbishment of office space (including shop fitting) sectors.

Happy served as Deputy Chairman of BrandSA for six years, an appointment made by the country’s president. He also serves as a Board Member of Gauteng Tourism Authority. In addition, he is a specialist marketing consultant for the Multichoice Group.

Happy’s entrepreneurial spirit saw him being one of the founders of South Africa’s first black-owned advertising agency, HerdBuoys, which had, among its many achievements, the distinction of having positioned and launched the new colours of South African Airways post 1994.

Corrie Verburg

Board Member

Corrie is the IQ Business’s Commercial and Financial Officer. He has experience in financial reporting aligning these with strategic goals as well as business requirements and his responsibilities include all financial functions for the conclusion and sign-off of Annual Financial Statements.

Corrie has more than 25 years’ experience in business having extensively operated at an Executive level during this time. He started his career at SARS followed by a short stint of labour-broking concern. This was followed 9 years in the assurance industry operating at Executive level with responsibility for the full shared services function. In addition, a number of acquisitions were successfully concluded during his tenure. During this time, Corrie also acted as an asset consultant to a variety of clients.

Shirley Zinn

Board Member

Professor Shirley Zinn is the founder of Shirley Zinn Consulting that provides consulting and advisory services in HR, Transformation, Leadership and Education. She is an extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria’s Department of Human Resource Management, has recently been appointed as Adjunct Professor at the University of Cape Town. She is the Past President of the Institute for People Management South Africa and registered as Master HR Professional with South Africa Board for People Practice.

Shirley serves as Director on numerous boards including the Boards of Tuesday Consulting, Empowerment Capital, Knowledge Resources, Business Engage, Community Chest, and the Boston Consulting Group SA. In addition, she is the Advisor to the Board of Silvertree Internet Holdings. She also serves on the Take-Over Regulation Panel Board and on the Council of the University of Cape Town. She is a Trustee on the Nedbank Eyethu Community Trust, Ambassador for the Orbis Africa Charity, and the former Chairman of Starfish Greathearts Foundation.

Shirley is on the Advisory Boards of Monash South Africa, and the University of Pretoria’s Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences. She is the President for the Harvard Alumni Association South Africa and a Fellow of the Institute of Directors She was recently appointed as the Patron for South Africa Council of Business Women.

Shirley is a coach and mentor to several women across multiple industries. She has presented at numerous national and international conferences as a keynote speaker.

In 2015, she wrote her autobiography entitled “Swimming Upstream” which focuses on her personal and professional journey. It has officially been announced as a best-seller and she has conducted several “Swimming Upstream” talks nationally at corporates, schools, universities and charities, with the hope of motivating and inspiring especially youth and women that they can achieve despite adversity, and to never give up.

She holds a BA (University of the Western Cape); Higher Diploma in Education (University of the Western Cape); B.Ed Honours (UNISA); M.Ed (University of the Western Cape); Ed.M (Harvard) and Doctorate in Education (Ed.D) (Harvard).
