Airbus Helicopter Southern Africa achieves 100% BEE compliance

NPI Governance Consulting has assisted in getting Airbus Helicopter Southern Africa their Level 4 B-BBEE rating in the latest BEE verification audit conducted by BEE rating agency, Honeycomb.  This is a first in a highly competitive helicopter industry where most of the local players are foreign based.

Airbus Helicopters Southern Africa (AHZA) was established in 1994 and is headquartered at Grand Central Airport near Johannesburg.   It is responsible for sales, training, customer and product support on a fleet of around 250 helicopters in service with civil, law enforcement, emergency services, military and para-public operators throughout Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean islands.   It also supports customers at its Cape Town International Airport satellite and in Kenya at its line maintenance station at Nairobi’s Wilson Airport.  As a multi-national, AHZA faces many of the challenges of the ever-changing BBBEE landscape as well as specific challenges associated with the industry in which it operates, notably, insufficient availability of black-owned and blacked female owned Procurement partners. Despite the challenges, AHZA is unwavering in its commitment to contribute to transformation in the company as well as in the country.

This latest B-BBEE rating achieved by AHZA reflects an improvement from the Level 6 rating obtained last year. Airbus Helicopter is committed to a broad-based BEE model, with the benefits being truly broad-based. AHZA HR Executive, Thashini Moodley said “we do not predetermine outcomes but commit to being open and transparent in our procurement dealings. This is paying off and we are very pleased that we have improved from a Level 6 to Level 4.”

AHZA’s approach to transformation is to create broad-based benefit for the wider society in the areas it operates by generating opportunities for learning and training. “Education goes a long way towards overcoming the barriers to transformation on a sustained basis, while at the same time ensuring that South Africa has access to the skills it needs,” says Moodley.

NPI Governance Consulting has worked with over 150 organization since its inception in 2012 and ensured that transformation becomes meaning for all stakeholders.  This achievement attests to the collective effort by all at Airbus who enthusiastically embraced the BBBEE strategy, concludes Israel Noko, NPI CEO.
